Crime & Punishment: Policing in the Modern Age

Baltimore.  Ferguson.  Milwaukee.  These are just a few of the cities that have made headlines recently because of police shootings of unarmed black men.  Thousands nationwide have protested these killings and the perception that the response to the shooters from our justice system was inadequate or absent. This collection of materials attempts to provide some context to the police issues in the modern age since much of what we learn is through highly processed and sensationalized media soundbites.  Materials include career insight into the stressful job of a police officer, the militarization of American police forces, as well as information about forensic science and detective work. Other materials look at social tensions and conflicts that exist between the community and law enforcement. This display is located in the reference room and most items are available to check out.
